Despite the words on the cover, "The only introduction you'll ever need," I would hesitate to give this to an absolute beginner. It is heavily into Taoist astrology and the symbology of cardinal directions. The illustrations are first-rate, and the format is compact and paper-saving. Thorsons and HarperCollins are top-notch publishers, and the book has resounding substance. Even his recommended reading list is worth special attention.
